The Parish of New Brighton,
St. James with Emmanuel
St. James Choir
The Choir of St. James, New Brighton, plays an important part in leading worship at the church Sunday by Sunday. At present it is a robed, adult choir, although we would welcome children as choir members. We sing all types of church music from Tudor to 21st century, in four part harmony, and each month we sing Choral Evensong, with more ambitious settings of the responses and canticles. The choir puts on special services on Good Friday and Remembrance Sunday, and the Carol Service in December is always a great favourite. Each year we join with Emmanuel Choir to lead the singing at the Cenotaph at the civic Service of Remembrance on the New Brighton promenade.
We visit at least one cathedral or greater church every year to sing Choral Evensong. In the last few years we have sung at Ludlow Parish Church, Malvern Priory and Blackburn, Chester and Ripon Cathedrals. In 2010 we have visited Worcester and Hereford Cathedrals. These visits are always happy occasions as are the occasional concerts such as 'A Victorian Evening' that the choir presents from time to time.
The choir is always pleased to be asked to lead the singing at church weddings, and couples can choose from a variety of suitable music to be sung during the signing of the registers.
Applications for membership are always welcome: all we ask is a pleasant singing voice and a commitment to regular attendance. Please contact the choir manager, Geoff Adams on 639 1125, for an informal discussion.
